I have just had the worst medical experience of my life.
In this day and age, does anyone do root canals with virtually no anesthetic or anxienty-relieving technique?
Never having had one before, I had a root canal performed by Dr. Alibhai. It seemed strange to not be offered headphones, gas, anything else, but trusted that the ordeal was over - despite expressing concern about a nerve-type "zinging" as he finished. A year later, the tooth went from sensitive to throbbing, He reluctantly agreed to look again tho' insisted the pain was coming from a different tooth. He wrenched the crown off without anesthesia - odor & taste of infection filled the room - he mumbled something - gave a single shot of novacaine then went to attend other patients for 10-15 mins. I've never been particularly fearful in dental or medical situations before (including 2 hip replacements), but now experienced skyrocketing anxiety. Upon his return, I requested gas or "anything" else but was dismissed. I couldn't leave the office or I would have. Proceeded to drill, etc. gave a 2nd shot only after I levitated off the chair at one point and was shaking & weepy. Due to interruption to attend other patients, the whole process took nearly 31/2 hrs.
